The Dr. Curtis E. Tate College Scholarship
Established in 1998, the Dr. Curtis E. Tate Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Curt Tate — a founding member of USA Martial Arts, a fierce competitor, and a respected martial artist. Dr. Tate passed away in his sleep in February 1998, and this annual scholarship was created in his memory to support the educational goals of the USA Martial Arts community.
Each year, a $1,500 scholarship is awarded to a deserving student — or child of a student — from USA Martial Arts or one of our affiliated Parks & Recreation programs across Connecticut. The award must be used toward college expenses during the academic year it’s received.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be an active member (or the child of a member) of USA Martial Arts or an affiliated Parks & Rec program. Recipients are selected based on:
- Personal character and goals
- Achievements in and out of martial arts
- Written recommendations
- Completion of all application requirements
The scholarship is awarded for one year, but recipients may reapply annually.
How It Works
Applications are reviewed by the Tate Scholarship Committee — a small group of dedicated volunteers who meet throughout the year to raise funds and select recipients. Completed applications must be submitted to USA Martial Arts in Woodbury. See the application form for full eligibility details.
