Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation Tournament II

The second Cheezic Tang Soo Do Tournament of 2016 will take place at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury on March 13th @ 9:00 AM.  This event will be FORMS AND BOARD BREAKING.

Entrance fee is $35.00 NO pre-registration– Trophies 1st thru 4th place.

Tournament Competition Seminars – All Locations Invited

We have scheduled two “Tournament Competition” classes prior to the Federation Tournament March 13th.

In Woodbury a Tournament Board Breaking class will be taught by Bruce Butler on March 8th at 7:00 PM (you must supply your own wood).

Also on March 8th a Tournament Forms class will taught by Master Antonucci @ 7:00 PM in Naugatuck.  All ages and rand ranks invited to these classes.  There are no charges for these special events.

BREAK-A-THON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 12th annual St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Board Break-A-Thon will take place on Saturday, March 5th @ 3:30 PM at USA Martial Arts in Naugatuck.

Everyone is invited. Participants will be breaking boards to benefit St. Jude’s. In 2015 we raised a record $5,600.00, and we raised $58,000.00 cumulative over the past 11 years. The Hopkinson family will be donating a few boards but participants are encouraged to bring as much wood as you would like to break. Registration forms will be available from your instructors or at the studio’s.

Extreme Bo Staff Seminar Scheduled for January 16th

For those who want to step up their weapons game, an EXTREME BO STAFF SEMINAR has been scheduled for Saturday, January 16th from 2:00-3:30 in Woodbury.

Students will learn challenging moves and technique not practiced in a traditional class. The instructor is 3rd Dan Ken Buckley. The fee is $15.00 cash – all proceeds to benefit the Dr. Tate College Scholarship Fund for our martial artists. All clubs are invited.

Cheezic Tang Soo Do 2016 “Best of the Best” Awards Banquet

The Cheezic Tang Soo Do 2016 “Best of the Best” Awards Banquet will be held on Sunday, January 31st at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT.

Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door. Everyone is invited. Those with total cumulative points placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in tournament competition will be recognized at the banquet. The registration forms and mailing addressis available online at www.cheezictsd.com under the “events” tab.

Also honored at the event will be the “Student of the Year” nominees from each dojang location in the federation. The USA Martial Arts “students of the year” nominees are as follows:

Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation Tournament I

The first tournament of 2016 will be held on Sunday, January 17th at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury.

This event will be Sparring and Weapons only. Tournament entrance fee for the 2 divisions is $35.00. Trophies awarded for 1st thru 4th place. Sparring division competitors must have foam dipped head, hand, foot gear and a mouth guard. All males must have a groin protector.

Kubotan Seminar Scheduled for January 9th

Back by request, USA Martial Arts is sponsoring a kubotan self-defense seminar for women.

A “Kubotan” is a 5 inch long hand held ancient weapon that is used to fend off a potential attacker using easy and effective techniques. The instructor is Master Lorraine Dunn-Laranetto. The cost of the seminar is $20, $10 for repeat attendees who bring their own kubotan (cash, no checks please). The class will be held on Saturday, January 9th from 2:00 – 3:30 PM at USA Martial Arts, located at 744 Main St. South in Woodbury. Those who register by January 2 will receive a free kubotan. Bring a friend or relative – everyone is invited. All proceeds to benefit the Dr. Curtiss E. Tate College Scholarship Fund. To register email dougwilke7@aol.com.

Special Forms Class

ATTENTION ALL BLACK BELTS – ALL AGES – ALL LOCATIONS!!!

We are scheduling a special Black Belt forms seminar on Tuesday, December 29th @ 7:15 PM in Naugatuck. We will be learning Bai Sai So , a 6th Dan form. Bai Sai So is a fairly short form and can be learned in one class.

This is a onetime only event for all ages and all locations. No fee.

Dr. Tate College Scholarship for Karate Students

USA Martial Arts (Park & Rec. students included) current members are eligible for the Dr. Curtis E. Tate College Scholarship award.  The annual scholarship is $1,500.00.  The scholarship was created to honor the life of former student, Dr. Curtis E. Tate, who died suddenly in 1998.  It is the only karate scholarship of its kind in the United States.

This scholarship fund is managed by a group of dedicated committee members who meet 3 times a year to administer the award.  The annual Tate meeting will be held on November 7th @ 2:00 PM in Woodbury – the public is invited and encouraged to attend.  Please help.  This unique scholarship was created to benefit our karate students.

Upcoming Seminars

To prepare our members for the upcoming CT Yankee National Tournament on October 4th, we have scheduled 2 seminars in September.

On September 22nd in Woodbury, Bruce Butler will instruct a tournament board breaking seminar @7:00 PM – please supply your own wood (see below for specs).

Wood must be #2 PINE 1″x12″ (rough cut is acceptable and more affordable…)

  • Kid Kicks (ages 5 & 6) 3 inches
  • Juniors (ages 7-12) 4 to 6 inches wide
  • Adults and Teens (13 & up) 5 to 12 inches wide

Please bring wood to the tournament board breaking class, enough for 3 breaks.  Wood must be cut across the grain.

On September 29th in Naugatuck HQ, Master Joe Antonucci will instruct a tournament forms seminar – please be prepared to demonstrate your tournament form.

There is no charge for these seminars. USA MA Park & Recreation affiliation members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
